A topography of fjords appears in the dim when arriving the ocean way to Øksfjord, the centre of Loppa muncipality. From Øksfjord boats and an infrastructure of the sea connects to the rest of the coastal community of Loppa. We believe the future development of Loppa is bound to be as closely related to the ocean and aquatic culture.

Mindre fjorder, der tåken ligger tett mellom fjellene, åpenbares på rekke og rad når man kommer sjøveien til Øksfjord, senteret i Loppa kommune. Fra Øksfjord går båttrafikken videre ut mot havgapet og knytter resten av samfunnet i Loppa sammen. Infrastrukturen skjer på havets premisser. Det er naturgitt at fremtidens innovasjon og infrastruktur kan tenkes i relasjon til havets ressurser og forutsetninger.

Loppa consists of several settlements located along a series of fjords. The road connection is fragmented, which means most of the settlements depends on ferry, or fast ferry. Over the last decades, the municipality has lost many local fishing boats and former fish factories. This is a result of restructuring and higher demands of efficiency in the fishing industry.

Loppa består av flere bosetninger langs en fjordrekke som grenser mot Troms fylke. Veiforbindelsen er fragmenter noe som gjør at mange av bosetningene er avhengig av ferge, eller hurtigbåt. Kommunen har i løpe av de siste tiårene mistet en stor andel av den lokale fiskeflåten og fiskeindustri. Dette er et resultat av en effektivisering av industrien, samt outsourcing av fiskekvoter og arbeidsplasser ut av fylket og landet.

Loppa is situated next to Troms County and is the westernmost municipality in Finnmark. It had its population peak in the start of the 1960's with approximately 2 700 inhabitants.
